Notification of Pollution Event (NPE) Workshop

PUTRAJAYA: A week-long workshop (10-14 August 2020) was organized by the Water and Marine Division of the DOE to review the alert levels of the continuous river and marine water quality monitoring network as well as the criteria for the issuance of reports of Notification of Pollution Event (NPE) from the corresponding manual river and marine water quality monitoring network.

In addition, procedures related to follow-up management actions and coordination encompassing not only the various divisions and state offices within the DOE, but also related agencies were also discussed and proposed.

The workshop was officiated by the Director General of the DOE, Puan Norlin Binti Jaafar. Also present were Encik Wan Abdul Latiff Bin Wan Jaffar, Deputy Director General (Operation) and Encik Hidzir Bin Bakar, the Director of the Water and Marine Division, while participants of the workshop included DOE officers from headquarters and state officers, as well as officers from SPAN and PSTW.

The outcome of the workshop, in the form of revised Standard Operating Procedures, to be implemented by the DOE as well as PSTW personnel is to ensure a more effective pollution alert and notification system leading to appropriate and timely management response.
